At Waldenway Canine & Kitty Camp we strive to be more than a cat boarding and dog kennel facility. We believe that while you enjoy your vacation – so should your pet. Our staff is expertly trained and true animal lovers! We are all committed to ensuring your pet’s stay is positive, fun, and stress-free, every time.
Each bunkhouse is outfitted with a raised hammock type cot, which is comfortable & durable, as well as a mat in front of the doggy door. The interior of our dog kennel is clad with Satin Finish Sheeting & painted with automotive paint. This makes the surface of the walls as scratch resistant as possible, and easy to clean! The floors throughout the facility are ceramic tiles and are sealed to prevent the absorption of urine.
Our pressure washer system is used to clean both the dog runs as well as the beds & mats for each bunkhouse. The exterior of the buildings has concrete floors with a smooth commercial sealant finish to prevent dogs from wearing their pads & nails. The concrete outside makes it easy to pressure wash each run to keep it clean & tidy for the pups staying at camp! Each of the runs are gradually sloped away from the building allowing easy drainage while pressure washing. Separating each run outside is commercial grade chain link fence so that dogs cannot chew through their run.
The exterior runs are covered over with a clear corrugated material which allows the sunlight to pass through but prevents the rain from getting each dog wet! This in turn minimizes the dogs from getting hot spots or sores caused by high moisture & also keeps the runs clear from snow during the winter months.
Each bunkhouse has its own multilevel shelves to climb on with tennis balls to bat around and windows to look out of to keep your kitty happy. There is also a raised hammock cot in each bunkhouse, which is comfortable and durable.
Your cat will get lots of love and attention from our staff, and extra play times are available for an extra fee if your pet could use some extra loving while you’re away. We also have an enclosed kitty stroller if you would like your cat to have some outdoor time as well.
Each camper’s litter is cleaned twice daily with feeding, as directed. And our staff is also trained to administer medications and insulin if needed at no additional costs. To see more of our cat boarding facilities, check out YouTube video for the kitty cabin tour.
Take a look at the website if they have one, and contact them by phone to get a feel for the services they offer, and to ask any questions you have: What are the hours of operation? Is Someone always on-site? Is the facility monitored? How much exercise will your pet get? Do they cater to the needs of elderly animals, or ones that need medication? What are the immunization requirements?
Be wary of any place that does not allow you to view the inside of their kennel. While some facilities do limit tours to certain areas to manage the exposure their guests have to strangers, you should still be able to see where your dog will be staying, and what their experience will be. Be wary of places that require an appointment – this gives them an opportunity to do an extra tidy-up prior to your visit. Having an opportunity to meet the personnel gives you an impression of how they are with their guests and will also give you comfort knowing who will be caring for your four-legged companions.
The general appearance and smell of a kennel will tell you how strict they are about sanitation and cleaning procedures. The kennel should be free of dirt, fecal accumulation, odours and parasite infestation (flies, fleas, ticks). There should be a strict schedule of disinfecting with effective chemicals.
Ask them to walk you through your pets’ day at their facility. It should be a routine that your pets can easily adjust to. Fresh water should be available at all times and the feeding schedule should be similar to what you do at home. In the case of a dog, they should have regular (if not continual) access to the outdoors during the day to allow them to relieve themselves as needed and then safely brought in at night for bedtime.
In the end, you will know whether or not a place will suit your needs by asking the right questions as well as by your impression of the boarding facility after a visit. Try to visit many locations for comparison and to get a better idea of what is out there. The time you invest at the beginning with pay off in the future.
Rookie clearly has a great time at Waldenway! She runs out happy and is exhausted – signs of good play time! Thanks for taking great care of our girl! We’re so glad we found such a great place to leave her for an adventure while we go on our own adventures.
